Quite right. My father’s 86 Toyota 4x4 pickup had a nice soft touch-plastic dash until he put Armor-All on it. Literally a month later, a massive crack had opened up on the passenger side.

BMW automatic transmissions aren’t exactly known for their longevity either...
Probably from the donor vehicle, and it simplifies replacement should that ever be required. My BMW has plastic end tanks as well, and it hasn’t yet failed in 12 years and 100k miles. I doubt this truck will get close to that figure in miles, but age is possible.
It’s meant to symbolize an “equals” sign with a slash through it - like on a piece of paper, rather than the more typical != used in programming.
