How popular will those films be with no stars to sell them and everyone saying he’s gross? Who will want to distribute the film? He’s suddenly gone out of style. That’s almost worse for getting films made than anything else. And will people “kill” to be in his films now that it means what exactly?

But “moving forward” matters a lot. Because it means Allen won’t have people willing to act in his movies. It might even mean other Allen-like figures will find it more difficult because people will see them as the toxic-career ruiners they should have been.

I feel sorry for those people who were huge fans of Cosby. But in his case, I do think it’s haddsd to separate the art from the artist because his stand-up and eponymous TV shows revolved around his persona. One can say the same about many of Allen’s films too, but IMHO his best works are the ones that transcend his

I don’t see Hall decrying the work as much as her association and tacit approval of a lousy person. It’s not possible to know if everyone you work with is a good person or not, but if enough evidence has piled up about the behavior of an individual, it becomes untenable not to condemn that behavior. I don’t see that

Optics matter. Movies’ success are built on optics. I think it’s a solid use of Time’s Up’s power. As for Singer, I can only think something big is waiting in the wings given his near-supernatural ability so far to stay out of the public conversation. Maybe he’s got something to hang over a lot of people?

See my response to the good Prince. I’m not watching his films, but anyone who’s plugged in to movies and pop culture has to see the yearly publicity cycle.

“I like Nikes, and I didn’t used to feel bad not knowing they were made in sweatshops. Am I supposed to feel bad because they’re made in sweatshops? Why are you trying to make me feel bad because they’re made in sweatshops? Shame on you people for trying to make me feel bad that they’re made in sweatshops!”

And if you come to realize a past decision was a shit decision, and wish to make amends for your ignorance?

Another bright spot in this ongoing sexual scandal: no more goddamn thinkpieces about the importance of separating the art from the artist. Fuck that shit and the people who write it.

At least it looks like he’s become too toxic to work with now.

It’s not that the writers are mocking themselves, it’s that they’re mocking the stereotype itself.

Well the simpsons IS a bad show. It had 6 epic seasons, about 3-4 still very good (but not quite as good as the best episodes of futurama/clone high/american dad/ insert short lived MTV cult classic animated show here.) seasons, a few mediocre seasons and then 2 straight decades of raw garbage.

The simpsons has grown

I’m kinda wondering how many of the folks screaming “oh my god people are too sensitive and just get over it” actually read the article.

Kondabolu’s problem with Apu is less with Apu’s characterization than with the way Hank Azaria chooses to voice Apu—and this, given that Azaria was specifically told not to play Apu

Apu is a relic from the 90s, much like the Simpsons as a whole. I didn’t think people still watched it.

I find it an interesting fine line the writers are playing with Frankie. Sure she’s being aggressively provocative with Sam, but the execution shows that it comes from a place of investment and with a sense of playfulness. Maybe I’m imprinting a bit of my own family dynamics where we’re ‘mean’ with each other because

Okay, everyone, it’s a TV dramedy, not a documentary. The more she said no, the more it lasted, the more ridiculous it got, but that was the point. Sam isn’t the perfect person with the right thought and the mot juste for every situation. Very often, entertainingly, she overreacts.

A little too close to the Diane Wiest/John Cusack “Don’t speak” scene from “Bullets Over Broadway”? (I ffwded too.)

I would have thought the article made no sense. I mean Obama’s oldest daughter wasn’t even born yet when Cobain died. Now we are supposed to believe a baby dyed her hair blue? The whole story would fall apart.

In 20 years if Sasha Obama is an advisor to a president and wants to lie about her youth, she should be held to account too.

Mention upthread is made of Nick Meyer’s involvement.
