I would not be surprised if the Mario “board game” sets were more heavily “influenced” in design by nintendo. The NES set seems more up LEGOs alley.

I’m pretty sure the first Nintendo X LEGO sets were the sets Nintendo wanted to make. The TV+NES seems much more in line with the sets LEGO likes to make. My guess is that its a tradeoff to get the licensing from Nintendo.
