Is it petty of me to feel so much schaudenfreude over Ghost in the Shell bombing so bad?

There have always been these four books, epic and massive books, that I was too afraid to read but really wanted to. Moby Dick, War and Peace, Don Quixote, and The Count of Monte Christi. Over the past year, I read three of the four and started the last one on Wednesday. I know this isn’t a big deal, but it is big for…
One of my mother’s more glamorous friends was not at all pleased to learn she was becoming a grandmother several years before she thought was appropriate. Her son, who was already on the shit list for fathering before finishing his degree, foolishly asked what she wanted to be called after her declaration that…
This is exactly the kind of post that still makes io9 special. As someone who discovered the 1995 anime just a few years after its release (and anime was harder to find), I’m grateful for this review and conversation. Keep it up!
Exactly, that’s exactly why I included that example. And it’s true that it’s always the oppressed that have lead the charge for change, but there’s a tipping point where eventually, the other side has to participate to get us over the hump. I sometimes think that I’ll be super old by the time I get to see some of…
I had mixed feelings about the book back in the days of yore when it came out. Some of that has already been expressed in the comments (how easy it is to give out advice from a privileged standpoint, as if your mere will to do better and “lean in” would actual produce results. There are people who were always…
These comments are pissing me off. I get it, you hate rich people and it’s fun to parse their words even when they obviously mean well. But I don’t quite believe it’s about rich people as much as it is about rich women. Rich women are somehow worse than rich men.
It is critical. And you are so right about the mentorship part. I’ve learned things about my company and my boss’s perspective that I never would have learned otherwise.
Mike Pence does not see women as colleagues or business partners (or god forbid, bosses). I am in finance and have meals alone with dudes all of the time for work reasons. In fact, when I am travelling on business, I make a special point of having dinner alone with my boss because it’s the rare time I get his full,…
It also means he got drunk once and cheated on his wife.
Also, does he not have any aides that are women? (Probably not) How on earth would they be able to do their job if they could never grab lunch with him in the cafeteria and talk over things?
My hatred of Matt Walsh knows no bounds. I grew up in a religiously conservative community and people like him piss me off. Fuck the patriarchal evangelical conservatism that passes for his brand of Christianity.
I find this hilarious because, as someone who has done a fair amount of first class travel, it’s not like the folks at the front of the plane are attired in smoking jackets, afternoon dresses and grandmother’s pearls. I’ve probably got on jeans, a comfy sweater and slip-on shoes just like the plebs back in row P.
What are “normal” pants for child though? I’d assume casual pants are normal for kids, and things like khakis or dress pants being more formal. I’m also curious about what age this starts at? Like do 5-year-olds have to wear business casual wear too?
I’ve been a pass traveler, too, but I’ve seen this policy enacted in wildly different ways from site to site (and from agent to agent). If you’re going to have a policy, it shouldn’t be selectively applied, and a company should always be very careful not to criticize the apparel of younger children.
There’s apparently a town in Newfoundland where a third of the population has the same last name. They’re all descended from one of Blackbeard’s pirates who went AWOL because he liked the local lassies that much.
I believe it. The majority of my friends are from Nova Scotia and Cape Breton and they all have like 3 last names between them but aren’t related. Like “no, no, our moms are both MacDonalds but her mom is from a different part of the island/ clan.”
“grabher” and “playground” on the same license plate is unfortunate - lol.
How can any of this not be by design or inherent? If it is not set in law that is merely because Israel has no formal Constitution at all: and so human rights are not enshrined there. When confiscation of Palestinian property is happening en masse, houses bulldozed (needless to say this does not happen to Israelis),…
Zionism necessarily entails the support of the Apartheid Israeli government and their racist policies. There is no space in feminism for racists.
