As much as I enjoyed this story and all the coverage it got, the whole ‘grifting rich NYC party people’ angle is way, way oversold. Her main victims were a couple of banks, a hotel, and people she hired.
Man that little Hannah Gadsby dig is the biggest tell here, considering her second special is just legit a solid comedy routine, and her first special hinges in having a very funny half hour of a comedy routine. Talk about throwing stones without watching it!
The money ended up going toward paying back some of the money Sorokin defrauded from City National Bank and Citibank, which is just rich.
And thirdly, you must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny.
