As much as I like to blame people of artificial scarcity, this could be actual scarcity. If we assume they predicted very good sales (like that of, say, the PS4) their initial stock would be of similar size. This is backed up by the numbers. If we then assume that they’re producing extra consoles as fast as they can…

They’ve made and sold more Switches than they’ve done with any other console before. They prepared for the biggest launch in Nintendo history, and it sold better than anyone expected. That’s not artificial scarcity, that’s just scarcity. Nintendo is pumping out as much as they can and its selling, artificial scarcity is where Nintendo pumps out less then they can making the scarcity an artificial construct. That is not the case here.

This is the artificial scarcity making some good headlines. They could have sold a lot more in it’s first weeks and then see it decline more sharply. But no, what were seeing here is a lot more in line with Nintendo’s production capacity then the actual demand.
