My taste in cars has always been pretty diverse. When it comes to the cars I’ve actually bought and paid for myself, I’ve consistently gravitated toward the small, foreign, low-displacement and sporty end of the spectrum. But for as long as I can remember, I’ve been a fan of many genres, including, but not limited to,…

So, last Friday, the power steering pump in my NA Miata failed catostrophically, barfing its guts out all over my engine bay. This is the second time this has happened, but last time I had it replaced within a day. This time around, I had to wait a little longer.

They say that scent is the most effective memory trigger. For the most part, I agree. Any time I poke my head into the cabin of an air-cooled Volkswagen I am hit with an almost euphoric wave of nostalgia for my 1974 Karmann Ghia. But I also think there’s something else out there that can be just as evocative: music.

Road & Track posted an opinion piece by Jack Baruth today about the upcoming ND Miata's horsepower figure (for North America) making the claim that 155 horsepower is plenty for a car like the Miata. And in general, I agree. But that doesn't mean I am thrilled about the new car's powerplant.

Over the last half-decade or so, Mazda’s Miata has been enjoying something of a reboot of its reputation. Long derided as a car unfit for those packing chest hair, the new line is that it’s a hot, affordable little roadster that offers all of the joys of sports-car motoring without the headaches induced by owning…

I'm probably square in the middle of AutoTrader's sights with their new Dukes of Hazzard themed commercial, and for the most part, I like it. Jason Torchinsky thinks they may be hiding something, but I think simply not showing the roof was a pretty skillful dodge, avoiding the wrath of both show purists and those who…

This time of year is a little melancholy for me. Not only did I lose my Integra to thieves six years ago yesterday, I lost my beloved 1974 Karmann Ghia, the first car I ever bought, on June 1, 1996. What is it about springtime?

Today is the sixth anniversary of the last time I saw my Integra as a drivable car. I can't help but be a little sad around this time of year. So long, old pal. You were the best.

So, the popular argument among Porschephilles and fans of the latest thing would have you believe that Porsche is only offering the 991 Turbos and GT3s with their PDK gearbox because it is the absolute best-performing transmission they could put in their ultimate performance iterations of the 911, and no performance…

See how tiny my car looks in that picture? I drove half-way across the country in that thing. It was the time of my life.

Last night, as I was circling around the block looking for a place to park in the Valley at least somewhere near my friend's apartment building, I saw something stunning: a beautiful woman driving a Jaguar XK-SS. To say the least, that's not something I ever expected to see in my life.

It was never easy for you. You were born a poor 1982 Plymouth Reliant station wagon, and then you were sold to a rental-car agency ... in Florida. After a year or so of that, my parents bought you as a second car. And then, in late 1991, you became mine. My first car.

Last night was a lot of fun. There were some cool cars brought by both Jalopnik and Jalops, good conversation, and, of course, lots of explosions, shifting, and shots of NAWWWWS on the screen. I met some nice people, but didn't get a chance to talk to more than half of the folks there.

Jason Torchinsky, I have felt your pain. I mean that literally. When I saw the empty spot where I had parked my car a few hours before, it physically hurt. The nausea wasn’t far behind. Somehow I think the fact that there was no trace of the break-in, no broken glass, paint chips or the marks of a spectacular burnout,…
