I do love all the conservatives who have to pretend they like Kanye West now.

Except he wasn’t. Having cannibalism-adjacent sex fantasies isn’t the same thing as being a cannibal. People get off to all kinds of things. If they’re not actually doing them in real life, it’s not fair to label them.
When you’re someone’s boss the power dynamic is inherent if you date an employee.
“the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal” Kanye misinterprets a lot, but this is one that he’s not a lone in believing.
I don’t think there is so much public outrage as there is rubbernecking. People are caught up in the drama. I’m sure there are some real stans who really liked the very public married couple who are outraged, but I think that’s a small portion of people.
I think, from the context, the outrage stems from the guy’s whole online public persona revolving around being a “wife guy” whose content was heavily centered around his devotion to his wife and family and included them in a lot of said content.
This is hilarious! I am married to a lineworker, and I have never heard of this, perhaps because I don’t bother with TikTok, or perhaps because my husband doesn’t chase storms but just works eleventy billion hours a week locally. I work my own eleventy billion hours a week at my own job, so I’m definitely not packing…
I agree. Houses should never have been built on or in swamps and sandbars.
Problem: The water table in Florida is extremely low. You can’t go burying important cables in what amounts to porous, constantly moist sand that much of the state is built on.
Everybody has to do something with their time. If it’s not real stuff, it’ll be made-up drama. I had a job once where there was almost nothing to do, and the in-fighting drama between cliques was outrageous. I moved to another job where people are drowning in work, and there’s hardly a peep of drama. Not enough time…
I might suggest that some of this is because majorities get to be comprised of individuals, while minorities are lumped into out groups.
I’ve got a friend whose dad passed away relatively recently. She is very well-educated, with a long and established career of her own, and she has for years identified largely as the daughter of a lineman. It is infuriatingly weird.
Have you never met a military spouse or a law enforcement spouse?
I cannot imagine packing another human’s suitcase aside from a child or an ill person. I would never assume my husband’s day-to-underwear ratio.
“Linewife”? I find it so fucking weird and sad that anyone would want to define themselves by what their spouse does for a living. Like, if your spouse decides to to change their career path, do you then become “Accountantwife”? Or do you just crumble into dust and cease to exist?
I’m inclined to believe that it’s random women they hook up with who also happen to appreciate the work they are doing.
Once again, social media is living up to its promise of showing us the fascinating lives of others.
This is a good article.
What I find most interesting about this is that it is of a piece with a trend that exists all over the internet: the reification of increasingly minute details of people’s lives into concrete identities.
While I know this job can be dangerous......For FUCKS SAKE your husband isn’t going off to war for a year. Jesus Christ.
