That is so sad. It’s understandable and reasonable, but it’s so fucking sad that she feels like she has to protect herself from garbage scrutiny of her body.

While I agree that the University failed this poor young woman and her family miserably, as someone who lives in Utah, the disproportionate response that this case has been getting is ridiculous. If she were not a slim, sporty young white woman who was killed by a PoC then this case would have disappeared a long time…

I mean, she could tear up her contract and become the Aimee Osbourne of the family. There are ways to reject the spotlight - Kanye did it for a long time, to a certain extent - they just involve pulling back a little from the severe enmeshment of that family.

I know this case. The university, the police, everyone failed her and her family. I hope the taxpayers of Utah pay through the nose for her death.

Let’s not go crazy here and forget that campus police exist to protect the university’s reputation, not the students. They’re just as racist and sexist as the regular cops, but less competent at the basic crime stuff.
