I had the same reading of Falling Down - that it was completely satirical and condemning entitlement. The big reveal at the end of the film is that Douglas is batshit crazy (if the McDonald's scene wasn't evidence enough), so none of his inane triggers should be taken seriously.

The couple's dynamic is what sold it for me. Maybe I'm just a Ti West fanboy but I found it more compelling and interesting than most of the other segments.
