I’ll put my money with the BBC.  Somehow, it manages to deliver better US coverage than any US outlet.

The fact that one group lobbies against legislation is not evidence that either side is right. I don’t think voters have any affection for private insurers. I also don’t think, however, they’re eager to embark on a plan that potentially places their lives at risk and has no guarantee that it will be (a) less expensive

You can cite any number of polls/studies that say people want universal health care coverage. I would expect the numbers in those polls to mirror other studies that ask “Do you wish cancer could be cured?” and “Are you opposed to child molestation?”

How much revenue do you think would generated if AOC’s proposal was adopted and there as a 70% marginal tax rate on every dollar earned about $10M?

To the contrary, private insurance has every incentive to try and avoid wrecking things so badly that people actually decide they do want to try the Medicare for all plan. In that system, private insurance would only exist to sell supplemental plans, which is obviously not quite as lucrative.

The fact that some other countries have systems in place does not mean it is feasible in the US. If you contrast health care delivery in urban areas and rural areas you’ll find that even in our current system, where many people in rural areas are Medicare/Medicaid recipients, it does not work well. We’re a much

Here’s a story that explains the math.  It does not generate anything close to $40T.

If my choice to purchase my own coverage offends you, I’m sorry.  The fact you’re offended, however, is not an argument.

I agree that she can talk about her ideas all she wants. But anyone that thinks she has a chance in Hell of making any of those ideas a reality is ignoring reality.

The difference being that I have a choice when it comes to buying private insurance and if my insurer sucks, I can buy another policy.

Making promises you can’t possibly keep is not a good thing in anyone.  It works in US politics because American citizens are stupid.

Another good question to ask all politicians, including Trump and AOC, is “How are you going to pay the existing US debt, let alone run deficits of a trillion or so every year?”

Yeah, it’s almost like people like Trump and AOC that float ridiculous policy ideas without explaining how they can be funded should shut the fuck up, right?

This. This site is a perfect example. It’s the equivalent of Breitbart, just from the other end of the political spectrum.

And those projections are premised entirely on the people that are subject to paying it actually paying it as opposed to fighting it tooth and nail, creating new forms of tax shelters, etc.

But even that “plan” is not realistic.  If you increase the marginal rate to 70% for every dollar earned about $10M, you’re not going to generate 40 trillion fucking dollars.

AOC is a radical (by her own admission) and I think it’s fair to say her ideas may be good that doesn’t mean much unless you can explain how you’re going to make those ideas a reality.

Well, our new Speaker is fond of urging us to just pass shit and figure out the details later.

The Founding Fathers entirely rejected income tax.  WTF are you talking about?

I wouldn’t confuse fearlessness for hucksterism.  She’s just promising progressives the world when there’s zero chance she can deliver on her promises.
