I just saw Dune for the first time last Friday. And yeah, the pace is positively glacial, but it worked for me because I was expecting lore, not plot, and that’s what I got. It was a movie more about immersing you in a world than telling a story. I can’t say it worked for all of Villeneuve works though.

A movie can be a fun movie set in fantasy times, and have deeper ideological themes embedded into it.

I’m not a fan of Blade Runner, so I haven’t seen the sequel, but my guess is that said sequel was more interesting than what Scott would have offered. So us Alien fans suffered through Covenant (yes, Ridley, I get it, you had a class on Gothic literature in college you really liked) so you Blade Runner fans could get

Conan the Barbarian is clearly a very well-made movie (the score is just mindblowing), but I always feel weird watching it. There is a nihilistic, almost Nietzschean vibe running through the film, combined with some unfortunate (and not necessarily intentional) racial politics. The whole movie is a Western Ubermensh

I do have a soft spot for Conan the Destroyer. It’s so dumb it’s hilarious. I especially love Grace Jones, the absolute inane dialogue they gave the princess, and the scene with drunk Conan.

Your opinion is valid, but I do not share it. In fact, the more think about The Flash, the less I like it.

While I don’t disagree with your last statement in principle, in practice, 2016 showed that the only qualification needed to be President is to be a straight man. It doesn’t matter if you are a criminal, an obvious fraud, if you can’t barely string two sentences together or if you have the emotional intelligence of a

Mine would be similar, except I’d sen Man of steel below Aquaman, would bump up Aquaman to good movie (but keep it after Shazam 2), and I

Counterpoint: no it’s not.

“Others show Giuliani calling Dunphy “my bitch,” “my whore,” and “my fucking slut” at different points.”

Nope. Trickle down economics has been thoroughly debunked. Sorry Ronald.

Nah, it doesn’t surprise me. The World’s End is the one that gives Pegg’s the most to chew on, characterwise.

I dunno about this con specifically, but it’s not uncommon for comics guest to be added closer to the event, because they tend to cost less and have more flexible schedule than the Hollywood folks. So cons often book the big-ticket names first, and then book the smaller guests.

Not only was that distinction nowhere in your post, making it impossible for me to know what you definition of “your group” was? but considering “soldiers” as a special caste with different rights is a really problematic view, especially when you take into account conscription.. And even if I agreed with that view,

“Now they’re at war, and when you’re at war, you support your group.”

I agree. Unions are great and necessary, but they can become flawed, overly exclusive, violent, or corrupt. Just look at police unions....

For a number of performers, including Sean Astin, the regional con circuit is a huge chunk of their yearly revenue, so I understand why they would want to carve an exception for those. Especially since they aren’t there to promote a specific project, though it’s not rare that “what are you working on right now/in the

Yeah, really. It’s one thing for everyday people to use Google Translate to translate a random article for their own use. It’s another for a for-profit publication to use AI translation instead of hiring a translator.

First off, thanks for using an actual translator and not machine translation. Much appreciated.

Hey, so this a bit off topic, but as a website that often write about the dangers of generative AI and support Hollywood unions’ fight against the looming specter of AI... maybe don’t use it yourself? Maybe hire an actual translator? There are a lot of freelancers out there looking for translation work. Using machine
