Honestly, the whole division between “original” and “unoriginal” is really a bunch of arbitrary decisions and value judgment that aren’t based on anything real.

So by “slip in” I didn’t mean nobody caught it before release, but more - they needed a bunch of posters, an animator suggested that, it got approved. And there is no deeper meaning to the poster than that. It’s not a secret plot clue or anything.

Wow, that’s one eagle-eyed censor. Even with the still shot, it took me minutes to notice the poster. Hell, even now I can’t even fully make out the words on it.

You are right, but this one is on me. Linda wrote it correctly - I made a mistake retranscribing it. I copy-pasted it, but originally I simply fixed it myself, then thought this was too agressive an approach, so I put hulking back in but forgot to change the article back to an “a”

I think he meant it’s D&D as opposed to DnD, which is what I wrote. He’s doing the classic “oh your own comment is not perfect, so your revisions are invalid!”

I’m pretty sure Ellie Sattler and Lex never actually have a conversation of any kind in Jurassic Park. There is a mention of a conversation between them about Lex sitting with Allan, but we never see it. Even in the scene depicted in the slideshow, Ellie is adressing both kids, not Lex.

I’ll go to bat for Crichton a bit here - yes, his depiction of Lex in the book sucks, but he clearly learned from the criticism, because the teenage girl in the sequel book is way better written, and has more than a few discussion with Sarah Harding (who’s more competent in the book than the movie), including one

Ok, but again, that’s irrelevant. I’m talking rules of English writing, not DnD rules.

Man, I so wish I could get excited for this, finally Batnan and Robin in a live-action movie again!

There is a bit of politics when it comes to the plot point where the Roma people are immediately accused of theft when they have nothing to do with it, but it is in the low end, since that book is indeed more of the experimental sort. Hergé was trying to write a story “where nothing happens.”

Wut? That doesn’t make any sense. We’re talking grammar here. Who cares if fae is not a species in the rulebook? It’s clearly playing the same semantic role as tiefling, orc and merfolk, so it should be ordered in the same way.

It took me years to understand this joke.

Funny you memtion James and the lack of writers, because we had a good example of that problem with James’ recent article on police in Across the Spider-Verse. They had to ask the White Brit to write about the relationship between American police and Black Americans. James is a good writer, and he gave it a fair shot,

I see whatvyou mean now. Sorry for misunderstanding.

I have no desire to watch other people play ttrpg (in a minority, i know), but this lools like a cool concept.

Meet the queens as they introduce their characters—a merfolk assassin, an hulking orc barbarian, a tiefling sorceress, and a ranger fae.”

It wasn’t always like that. Annalee and Charlie-Jane, the founders, were bona-fide sci-fi and fantasy scholars. I used Annalee’s book on anti-capitalist horror extensively in my own doctoral thesis.

The Lego Movie 2 is not perfect, but I teally liked its message. I think its biggest problem was that it wasn’t Lego Movie 2, it was Lego Movie 4. They milked it the brand a bit too much and it backfired.

Oh no, the second G.I. Joe movie was plaged painfully straight, to the point that *nuking London* is considered minor collateral for rescuing the PotUS. Not a single shred of self-awareness in that pile of crap.

Oh absolutely. The Craig bond films have insisted a lot on the 007 logo in their marketing - they integrated it in the title design of each movie since Casino Royale, and sometimes add it to the old movies for rerelease. I say capitalize on that and have both 007 and 008 (or whatever other number they want) movies.
