For the most part, men with CF are born without a vas deferens, and therefore are sterile.

Most men with CF are functionally infertile — they fail to develop a vas deferens. So, without medical assistance, the sperm form just fine, but are trapped.

It’s not your fault - I should have looked up CF symptoms before doubling-down on my little semantics crusade.

A relative of mine had identical twins after something like 10 years of fertility treatments. If I remember correctly, she was on the final round of IVF that they could afford and got pregnant. The chances were incredibly small that it would work but the kids are two now and doing great.

Plenty of people are judging. The first post showing up on here calls people who use IVF egomaniac. I understand maybe you aren’t, though, so sorry if my response was too strong.

IT’S DEFINITELY SCIENCE! Depending on your religion you could think science was a gift from God, but don’t steal all the credit from your embryologists, Tina!

Damn it, Tina!

Tina!! Don’t be stupid!!

Yeah, she probably couldn’t CONCEIVE naturally since CF affects men’s fertility. Or she didn’t want to since CF is genetic. Still doesn’t explain why she didn’t an IUI with donor sperm. Cheaper and less invasive

Even after reading the article I still had to find out from another commenter that CF has a 97% infertility rate among men. Gee wouldn’t it have been nice to put that in the article.

No, CF can make men infertile and was the case here. Read the article.

and CF makes men mostly infertile.

When we did IVF, we had a bunch of really great embryos left over. Master Poodler is having tween troubles, but is healthy and reasonably attractive and reasonably intelligent.

Ah see this is me not knowing and learning. Got it.

Because cystic fibrosis is a chromosomal abnormality, in males with it, it can effect their fertility. In women it is not as common. There is a YouTube channel called TheFreyLife that is very informative as well as being delightful.

Cystic fibrosis makes men infertile.

Let’s just mind our own business maybe

Technically they did adopt. Embryo adoption is less expensive than traditional adoption and there’s far less risk that the process will fail (beyond the usual risk of miscarriage or a failed transfer). For folks who believe that life begins when sperm meets egg, this is a great option.

was any other name than “Elsa” even considered? Frozen for 24 years...... The cold never bothered me anyway.
