I realize that our reading of her intent is subjective, but it’s hard for me to picture someone calling themselves “incomparable” when someone has just compared them to someone else without implicitly denigrating that other person. And not naming names is just standard PR, which is not an especially convincing case,…
Looks like we all have a different definition of what “breakout role” means. Was Keke Palmer in Spider-Man without me noticing? The tweet linked says that Euphoria was Zendaya’s breakout role, but maybe that’s because the tweeter in question never saw Spider-Man? I really can’t stress enough how much cultural cachet…
I get the sense that the engine was Aleida’s life’s work and she’s angry the Russians got it without putting in the work and sacrifice.
Seasons 1 and 2 were excellent in their technical realism, internal consistency, and pacing for dramatic effect. Season 3 is nuking the fridge.
The technical depth is lacking. No discussion of the radiation hazards going to/from Mars or on Mars? This should’ve been a part of the story. Seasons 1 and 2 did more about…
“This is seemingly what everyone was hoping for ever since Picard premiered two seasons ago.” - No, I think many of us were perfectly ready for a quality Picard-centric show that was very different in terms of cast, tone, and story. But the “quality” part wasn’t optional, and boy howdy has the series not delivered in…
He was showrunner for season two, which was shit.
I would love for this to be the case because holy hell S1 and S2 were some of the worst seasons of television (in general) I’ve seen in a very long time and I only slogged through them both in the vain hopes they would improve.
About the only hope Picard season 3 has is that the new showrunner is the guy behind the TV adaption of 12 Monkeys which is one of the stand-out genre shows of recent years.
Thanks, CogentComment, for living up to your name. I headed over here to say all of that, but you’ve covered just about everything. I’ll add a couple of things: Is there no medical officer on the Helios team? Or, at least, someone to check inventory on the precious, limited supply of pharmaceuticals for a two-year mis…
Agreed. I think it’s the worst episode of the series, most for the Danny stuff. And last week’s was pretty good!
Thank you! I came here because I thought this episode was a disaster on so many levels, which you explained perfectly, and they called it an A-? I mean, you give someone “one last chance” and they immediately talk back to you, and you don’t send them to the brig immediately? I’m fine suspending disbelief, but that was…
Perhaps the reason there have been so many fatalities in this timeline, from the moon landings to the current Mars fiasco, has been due to the willingness of NASA (as well as the USSR & the gazillion dollar Helios Corp.) to hand the keys to some very sophisticated spaceships to a bunch of drunks.
Out of Sight is merely proof that a great director can make anyone look like a decent actor. There’s nothing I’ve seen in J.Lo’s other performances that’s suggested to me that she has some exceptional talent we’ve been overlooking all this time.
Out of Sight, IMO, is easily both the best movie that she’s been in, and her best role/performance. In her earlier career she was in a lot more interesting movies - namely U Turn, Out of Sight, and The Cell - but afterwards she went for almost exclusively rom-com fluff. I think Hustlers is a bit overrated but at least…
It was goofy when the President was talking to her husband and goes something like, “how dare you make decisions for me and my life.” Yes, madam President, how can someone make decisions for someone else’s life? What a weird notion. I’m not sure if that was meant to be ironic, but it was definitely oblivious.
I have to agree, this was borderline zany and daft. The politics stuff kind of works but the astronaut stuff with Danny and now his brother is so dumb/dull.
Based on how much material he seems determined to change (and I don't mean the diversity changes, so don't paint me with that brush), I find it hard to believe Rafe Judkins actually likes any part of the Wheel of Time books.
I would watch the hell out of a Paloma spinoff with Ana de Armas.
Of all the fandoms, Star Wars has arguably the biggest one; more fans means more people talking, which usually leads to escalation. Star Trek might have been big, but it was never “Star Wars big”, so it would make sense that the fans would be more “under control”.
