Why would FF14 go F2P? SE knows how to run a MMO and put more money, time and effort into it then 99% of the F2P MMO's currently on the market.

Because they can. The game is a massive success, probably the biggest turnaround I've ever seen in an online game. There's no reason to go F2P when a sub model is working so well for them.
