Nah, the cost of standalone UHD players is because they are basically computers, motherboard, processors, i/o, wifi card, etc...the actual optical drive itself is peanuts, especially to Sony, whom manufactures them. Just look at UHD drives for pc, $100, and that’s largely because of being a niche product with steep…

They both have a nvme slot, difference being the Xbox will have a proprietary shell for the drives. Also, I’m pretty sure Sony and Microsoft already stated that USB drives will not be able to have PS5 and XSX games played from them, and can be used for storage only for next gen games, with the ability to play last gen…

Both consoles utilize pcie 4.0, and drives much faster than the PS5's will be available next year.
