Ha! I was just about to write the exact same comment.

Why do we have to call everything a 'hack' now?

I think its funny how nobody really hammered away like this when Steve Jobs was alive. Yeah, there were a few stories and everyone sort of knew about it, but now that Jobs is dead, the floodgates have opened and its as if the media are just now discovering that Apple takes advantage of cheap and controversial labor in

I'm pretty psyched I didn't buy myself a new MacBook Pro for Christmas this year like I was almost planning to do.

Of all the things to be worried about regarding North Korea, this is not one of them.

Yawn.

I just don't get any of this.

Clearly you don't understand how to run a business. There are dozens of factors that go into the final price of the product, and labor is only one of many. Literally every aspect of doing business in the United States is more expensive, especially in manufacturing. From the electricity to the taxes to the regulations

Hmmm this sounds like a really complex calculation. We should get a math major to try and figure it out for us... but in the meantime, I'll take a crack at it.

Enslavement?

Government can't force anyone to do anything. If a company is no longer profitable enough to sustain its growth, then the company closes down. If Apple didn't make the profit it makes, it would cease to innovate, sales would suffer as a result, and the company would go out of business. And who wins in that situation?

You just hit it right on the head. An iPad manufactured in the USA would cost five grand or more, easily. Between the tax structure, the environmental regulations necessary to even set up a factory, and the union labor required to staff it, the ultimate cost would triple or quadruple.

But only after a sufficient middle class develops in China, making it no longer cost effective to continue to keep the work there. For that to happen, China will have moved past that stage, as we have in America, and will likely have an economy that is no longer centered around cheap labor for manufacturing, as ours

So does president Obama personally sign your checks or does he just conduct your annual performance review?

We eat a lot of raw fish, like sushi and tuna tartare or even steak tartare.

Just let me know when they make it stop being ugly.

Huh? No it's not... zoom in more, you can click on each individual building.

I collect/flip cars as a hobby, particularly luxury and sports cars, and I can tell you that I would personally never buy a brand new car. I've owned one brand new car my whole life, and while it was fun, it wasn't a good value proposition by any means. I was also 19 and my parents bought it for me.

The helium shortage is no laughing matter.

I think it's hysterically funny to see that all those 'green' buildings in Battery Park City consume every bit as much energy as their neighbors. It's something I always suspected, but it's interesting to see it illustrated.
