I think a main issue of this whole debacle is that, some male gamers are really offended by the notion that the game they're playing may be sexist or misogynistic because they believe it as some sort of personal attack. As if that the game is their identity in that sort of way.

The assumption is that all sexualization of women will disappear. Not just some of it, all of it. And we'll have nothing but horse-grooming games and other "girl games", as if that's the only thing that women play.

It's an irrational fear, like the people who are sure someone is going to take their guns, or their

Awww you sound overwrought and emotional, cupcake.

I think it's more that some people take social criticism as personal criticism, so when they hear this thing they enjoy is sexist they think they're being called sexist, while the real point is that it'd be nice if things changed going forward, they hear that they're in the wrong and react with vitriol.

Whose freedom of expression is violated by criticism, dipshit? Use big words in your response and use them correctly. P.S. 100,000 POINT IRONY BONUS: There's no hyphen in 'artless'.

Eh, I've been called worse by better. Stick around, maybe you'll accidentally get smarter by listening to me. I've helped people like you before. And I don't even make you thank me.

If you act like the KKK, you don't deserve a platform to have the things you are saying heard. Hate Groups have no place on television. The only thing that should be aired is a warning not to join them.

As well you should. She didn't have sex with Kotaku's Nathan Grayson for favorable coverage; they covered her, once, before they ever had sex... and never talked about her or her game again until she started receiving all these threats. Some people (probably assholes) say she cheated with more people than just

I didn't realize - I will get a notepad and pen.

THIS. It's not a zero-sum game, people. We can all have a seat at the table, we're not looking to kick anyone out, just asking that you pull out a few more chairs so we can sit too.

And women have such a proud tradition of starring in video games, too

His Christmas gift should be a feminist book. :)

My theory: it has something to do with the fragility of unearned and unjust privilege. The more fragile your sense of domination or superiority, the harder you're going to fight to protect it, and the more alert you'll be to the slightest perceived "threat" to your position.

Oh baby... oooh. You're sweet, you are a sweet little honey drop. Fragile and precious, never change.

Man, his going to the Late Show is a massive, massive blow to smacking people upside the head with reality in the funniest of ways. I mean, the Colbert Report has *always* nailed the essence of an issue down to the truth, and ridiculed the wrong side with their own faulty commentary, actions and beliefs.

Unfortunately,

*Sigh* Okay, might as well break some things down here...

This other one is probably relevant too:

Prior to her series on video games, Anita made videos about sexist tropes in books and movies as well. You can still find them on her Youtube channel.

There are entire university courses taught on women and their representation in film. There are plenty of feminist critiques of film out there. This is neither new, nor unique to videogames.
