I think that’s what we all agree already. I don’t think anybody thinks he team orchestrated this to slam Black people. It’s just unfortunate timing and it was handled without a big fuss to the benefit of all. Like all issues of this nature should be handled.

It is is racist if you are ignorant... of Chinese culture.

I hope they use them on another night. They’re really cool shirts, and there’s nothing inherently offensive about them. Skipping tonight is one thing, but outright forbidding innocuous items because you can find parallels with something unfortunate if you try really hard would be sad.

Also this New Year is an especially important one because it falls on the 8th. The number 8 is considered to be very lucky in China. Hell they stated the Beijing Summer Olympics on 08/08/08 at 8 minutes and 8 seconds past 8 pm.

How? It’s all a giant overreaction and it’s pretty damn sad

I’m black, and think this is about the dumbest thing ever. A bunch of overly sensitive garbage.

It’s not really a misunderstanding. It’s the Chinese New Year, 2/8. California has the largest number of Asian Americans of any state. The Chinese Calendar is the product of centuries of evolution.

Yeah. Olskool has it right. Nobody was being racist here, it’s just a bad look.

I’d say so - and in my opinion your thoughts are consistent with both the tone of this write-up and Cousins’s viewpoint.

I understand and am going to back Cousins...but damn that’s kind of a sweet shirt, and I love monkeys, and Chinese monkey legends. Damn you racists for your attempts at ruining our country and ruining a sweet shirt giveaway.

I think even Demarcus Cousins would agree with that premise. I don’t think he had them removed because he felt they were racist. He suggested having them removed because they could be misconstrued as insensitive given the timing of it all.

can we all agree that this was more than likely just an unfortunate misunderstanding and not some racism fueled dig at black history month?
