Well, FWIW, I found it kind of pathetic too. And I suppose in the real world, he would have written an e-mail. But it's a movie. A movie about love, and many of the forms it takes. Unrequited love is one of them.

I always took it to be his explanation to her, since she discovered the wedding video. I think he owed her that. If I were in her shoes, I would rather know that he actually had feelings but kept his distance out of respect for my husband, as opposed to him just being a creep who jerked off to pictures of me or…
