If you only have one or two kids, you don’t have to shop in this category.

For a family of four?!

Ain’t that the truth.

Well I’m guessing Nissan will use this 13 year old truck as proof it doesn’t need to change anything for another 13 years at least.

What exactly was wrong with the Toronado?

Thank you! Twin Tires! I couldn’t remember the name they used for that odd configuration.

And why not DUAL bike tires on each front corner? Lower contact area but more spread out.

My point: Most, but not all, of these risks were disasters. I am not sure GM can be blamed for being risk-averse.

So what you’re saying is...crossover Camaro!!!!

Look at the Fiero. Once they updated it into a decent car, they canceled it.

But you can get a Spark for $13,220, and you can get a Mirage for $13,999. Looking at local dealers, there is an even wider selection of cheap cars. (there are several new Sparks listed under $12k, one at $10,090 and several Buick Encores, Chevy Trax, and Fiestas under $14k near me).

But Cadillac is a bigger brand than Olds, Saturn or Pontiac were IMO. It’d be like Ford getting rid of Lincoln the way they did Mercury

Yeah, you’re probably right, but I still wonder what a truly cheap RWD sports car would do in the US market. Everything now is “Cheap for a sports car”, and they’re still close to double the price of a true entry level economy car.

Short answer: I’m married and I have kids.

Yeah, I shouldn’t complain about my income or living costs, but it is a little annoying for me and my wife to both be working in “high wage industries” and still feel like we can’t afford something like a new car.

I believe there is a certain set of people who would consider a sports car, but avoid them due to a need to be “sensible”. Get the price down low enough, and there will be some people who will fall into the “Why not? It’s not that expensive” mindset.

If you routinely drive 4-up you need something much bigger. It has an infinitely more usable back seat than the Spider. I wouldn’t want either as my ONLY car.

Perhaps more people would consider commuting in a small sports car if it was the same cost as a “commuter” car. Why not get the “toy” car when it costs the same as a “sensible” car?

I’m sure Mazda could get the base price that low. (There are similarly sized cars that sell for $10k less than the MX5). Though I have no clue how basic and stripped of features it would have to be to achieve that price level without losing money. (Mazda already sells a 1.5L base model in other countries)

You say that, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that you can buy a house outright in Nebraska for the *downpayment* on a house in California.
