@rott: I'm guessing there's going to be a fancy gyro sensor remote but a separate app catalog. Also, there will be apps that use other iOS devices as touchscreen remotes (like Chopper 2 and Scrabble for iPad that use the iPhone/Touch as remotes). But I think in general, you're correct that there will be a separate

@karite36: I assume 16GB is the option with the lowest storage capacity. There's no reason why Apple wouldn't offer several versions for increased profit margins.

Based on the number of negative reactions to these new rumors about Apple TV, I expect that Apple will outrage many gadget-o-philes and yet somehow still sell millions of units in the first three months.

@DrakeDatsun: They do if you hit them with great force.

@Ian Logsdon: I think this article is either disingenuous or unsophisticated, for the reason you refer to. The problem is that an app that takes advantage of the higher resolution of the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.x will not run on an iPad running iOS 3.x.

@I Think We're Property: This is kind of an Aristotelian view of biology. The concept of a species is a post-hoc abstraction, not an a priori determinant of biological phenomena.

Once the iOS 4 hits the iPad, there will be more interest by developers in writing apps that work with both devices, and apps for the iPhone will more naturally work for the iPad without any additional changes even. The problem right now is that the iPhone 4 is a huge jump in hardware and software, with a larger

@ignacio reyes: I don't go for most Apple rumors, but Daring Fireball / John Gruber has been more restrained in announcing rumors and has been more intelligent in his comments about Apple. My thought about dual cameras is that both cameras on the iPhone 4 are used by Face Time. So if Apple is going to bring Face

@Kirkaiya: I agree, I think the main problem is that MS is using their desktop OS. A tablet with a battery life of even 7 hours is less useful if it has to be put into true standby or hibernate mode, unlike a mobile OS which is instant-on/always-on.

@fortelv999: I have used someone else's Atom netbook but only briefly. It may be that the newer Intel CPUs will be able to deliver a better performance:power utilization ratio, as Kirkalya was talking about in the comment above. In general, though, there's more room for a battery in a netbook form factor than a

I expect a major difference between the two will be battery life. The most remarkable thing about the iPad is that it has a snappy UI combined with great power efficiency. The iPad's browsing capability is fine, but it's not as fast as what you would get on a desktop OS - as this video shows.

I agree in a very circumscribed sense. The practice of printing books that have zero value in a short time - including books written by Negroponte - will be dead. Not to single out Negroponte, but anyone who writes about what the world will be like in five to ten years is not writing a book that will have any value

I'm waiting for a pseudo-evolutionary biologist to claim that people evolved dimples for the same reason.

@bbeesley: Hasn't Gizmodo always dealt in hyperbole?

@G-Ram: You're right about iMovie. And, I could see Apple making a Garageband iPad app. I'm not so sure about the value of sequencer-style apps on the iPhone in general, though. Personally, I'm more of a fan of alternative types of interfaces for the smaller screen. OTOH, I've never tried a sequencer-style app on

@G-Ram: You probably know this, but Apple tends to not make apps for their iOS line. They made an iPad version of their office suite apps, no doubt in part to keep users from going to other solutions that sync with Google Docs, to maintain some degree of compatibility, etc. The iPad version shores up the OSX

I didn't think the ending was all that ambiguous. That is, it was just ambiguous enough to cause the audience to emit an audible gasp. That degree of ambiguity is what makes people sit and think about whether they can be sure that the ending was or wasn't a dream, just because they don't see the top fall visually

@TonyTriple: It seems like there has been some disorganization or in-fighting with regard to whether to make a MS media-centric tablet or a stylus-based tablet. The UI shown here actually more resembles the Zune and upcoming Windows Mobile interface, while the Courier was supposedly to be based on Windows 7. I

@Dancing Milkcarton: It was kind of a lose-lose situation. If iOS4 hadn't been an option for the 3G, people would have cried foul. Because they gave 3G owners the option to upgrade (and downgrade), they realize the benefits of giving people the opportunity, knowing that most 3G owners wouldn't even bother.
