Over the last two seasons, Stranger Things has put on a decent showcase of unnecessarily breaking up tense, taut moments. They did it with an entire episode last season, and then this scene this season.

The first movie worked primarily because of Tommy Lee Jones, in my book. Will Smith carries it, but the deadpan comedic timing working off of Smith is something that Jones was sensational in. Add in a great bad in Vincent D’Nofrio, and a really fresh premise, and the first one sailed.
