DP and lmp1 are apples and and oranges. Both may be closed (optional in lmp1) cockpit and go twice around the clock but that's where the similarity ends. DP uses a pre fab chassis made by Riley, Dallara, Lola etc. and also use production car engines, like the chevy Ls and ford Eco boost.
