Exactly. They know he'll made a decent (but not great) movie and can deal with the politics with grace.

I would not necessarily be excited about it (Law&Order got boring about 10years ago) but I could see a crime procedural set in a Federation colony being really interesting, if they have the balls to really explore what policing actually looks like in an ostensibly utopian society.
