Actually, the source material is a novel on which the film is based, by Karl Alexander. Entertainingly further down the rabbit hole, it turns out that Alexander wrote a sequel to the book, in which Jack the Ripper is either transmogrified or genderbent into a woman.
Haaaaaaah.
