An F-22 won’t do A/G very well. The Raptor can do pre-planned strikes with IAMs, but it doesn’t have the sensors F-35 has. (Nor does it have the weapons)

It is known whether it will be a successful platform, like you said, it HAS to be successful. The US has taken far worse aircraft and made them very effective.
