California is a 2 plate state but they don’t seem to enforce it. I ripped the front plate off my XJ while wheeling it and I left it off for almost 10 years before reinstalling it to get a sign off from the CHP for an unrelated fix it ticket (wanted to play it safe) . I was a kid when this came out, it was definitely not cool. The hologram effect only worked well if you were standing in exactly the right spot and if you leaned into the game you could easily see the crt that it was playing on.
