I see LotR as similar to Jurassic Park, which did not get any kind of mention in the 1993 column. They're fantastical dramas featuring tense set pieces, some of which are more traditional action or chase sequences, but the movies aren't really built around getting the characters into physical confrontations.

Yeah, starting off the depiction of Georgia with "bumbling Georgian doesn't have a phone" was a bad move IMO. It signaled from the start that they were going to go super broad with the joke.
