Back when I worked retail managers could only recommend someone to be terminated not actually terminate them, it went through HR and corporate first. It was easier to let go of people who didn’t meet sales goals than it was to fire someone for being a problem.

If WIC and SNAP didn’t exist, that cashier probably wouldn’t have a job. Both of those programs provide a good portion of the profit for grocery stores. The original food stamp program was created to not only feed the hungry, but to prevent grocery stores and farmers from going bankrupt during the Great Depression.

Imagine being so privileged that not getting a free hamburger (or more over, hearing the word “no”) sends you into a rage that makes you think telling a Hispanic woman to “go back to Mexico” is an okay thing. Then imagine how miserable you’d have to be that person. Then be happy you’re not that person.
