Yep. Here's Boris, adopted somewhere between the ages of 2 and 3. No one would give him a chance, because the story on his cage detailed a lot of abuse. But he not only managed to integrate into a household that already had four cats, he was one of the best-natured, mellowest cats I've ever met.

Older pets can be great pets. This guy was all due to Boyfriend of the Dead. He has never had a pet before in his life, but decided to get us a cat as a surprise Christmas gift for me a few years ago. Apparently he went into the pound and asked them if he could get the biggest cat. They gave him the biggest cat!
