More than likely it is one of those super creepy lifelike toddler dolls. My single aunt had one (the chair below the kid is what they "sit" in normally). Damned thing creeped me out to no end as a kid. This "toy" pretty much dove right into uncanny valley territory and instead of looking lifelike just looked…
That certainly seems easier than wearing my scuba mask while cutting onions, and probably is less socially awkward.
I wish I could find the older article I think by Techdirt. It had a newspaper clipping from the 1920's or 1930's it was talking about it's new big "social" media of the day a telephone in offices on every desk. The argument was if they put a phone in everyones office/cube people would spend all day on the phone and…
Windows 8 potentially in 18 months or so sounds nearly impossible. Then again MS has a proud history of borking every other Major Windows OS release. So maybe it's best to get 8 out of the way so they can start working on 9 which will actually hold all the cool ideas they had for 8 but didn't have time to produce…
I think GoodReader was one of the first Apps I paid money for when I got my iPhone 3G a few years ago. Money well spent IMHO.
I live on top a 13 story building that overlooks the Gasteneau Channel in Juneau, Alaska with a Myfi card in it it now uploads images to my webserver that it takes every 15 minutes so it's kind of a low tech static web cam. The last place I lived I kept it focused on my front door area from a window so I could check…
This might just be the kick in the pants I need to start messing around with LED's again. I've got a couple of old lamps from the 1950's that I absolutely love the design of. I've been wanting to make a light source with a column inside the tall (4 foot) tube like lamp shade it uses. I'd love to reproduce the thing…
@thinkerer: I had a friend that did something similar. He had a cheap remote thermometer that comes with most the "weather stations" you can buy now for less than $20. He used that to monitor his temperature. In the end we ended up running an exhaust vent out the back of the wall into the kitchen and vented it…
I work in IT and when people blame us for not getting their work done when their just ignorant on how to use a PC really leave me annoyed, but when the person then lies to cover their own arse it's hard not to go into a rage...
Tethering for net access with a laptop should be basic and free (although making it a hotspot for a few machines to hook up to would be a lifesaver sometimes. Also why can't I sync my iPhone to my computer over wifi? It would be awesome if when i docked it on my alarm clock/radio at night that I could hit an app and…
@Chispea: I've done most of those tricks, but it would be a lot more handy if that was an option baked into iOS. Also I'd love to have it display upcoming meetings, recent missed calls/txts.
@rkinne01: That's pretty similar to what I do, but I use the Sharpie Oil Markers to mark the ends of my power cords that plug into the strip.
Sweeeeeeet!
