I've said this a lot recently, but I think Lee's career never really took off because she's so unguarded and raw. Most directors want some critical distance between the audience and the play. They don't know how to handle someone who will go that far out to the edge.
I rarely watched after Diane left for good, but I agree that the Cliff character was too broad in later years. Which always disappointed me, given I was nicknamed after him.
That Cheers is one I've seen more than once.
