Honestly, I was thinking all the button mashing symbolism was just to fill in the gap of what the character would be seeing (not the player) during said impossible fight. The player would have seen his character take a hit, 9999 flash above his characters head and then fall dead to the ground.

I think it’s a matter of opinion and preference. Personally I find the PS4 controller one of the most comfortable I’ve ever held - and it’s a HUGE upgrade from the PS3 controller which was awful (too light, convex triggers).
