I gotta say, up until Caitlyn’s transition started being a news story, I thought that the Kardashians were pointless, useless, and a huge waste of airtime. At this point, though, if even one trans kid has gained a lift, if the movement for trans rights has been pushed forward even a little bit, that's awesome. That

Someone in my office said, “So when is he going to transition back for higher ratings?” and I eye-rolled SO HARD and spat back, “This has to do with gender identity, not ratings! She’s not going to transition back into the body she hated just for TV!”

Pausing for a second to contemplate the fact that TMZ’s hardball tactics could have led to Jenner’s suicide. This is not fun and games, this is dangerous stuff. I’m glad she made it through, and I join to chorus of congratulations.

I love IG for this...love it! lol And on a serious note, I love the positive comments people have. I hope it does open up dialogue and helps people put a face to transgender issues and the process of making the transition. Wishful thinking, but one can hope.

My husband’s story:

I pretended to be straight for 20 years. Does that count?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work that you do. Please let your co-workers know that too.

I don’t think it would be ethical to publish anything without the permission of the person who has told the story/has potentially had this crime committed against them. It’s not morally wrong of that person to tell the journalist that it happened and was covered up. But, it is ethically shitty to bring a story like

Let’s think about facts here.

I think it should be up to the victim. In this situation, their needs trump everyone else’s. Whistle-blowing the story means potentially outing the victim and making them a target for retaliation and ridicule and also violating their privacy. It would also do the same to the perp and the candidate, but they deserve

ugh. I have to say, I’m really disappointed in Jezebel for thinking this is a story that needs to be told whether or not the victim wants it to be. Especially when it’s possible that the actual politician knew nothing about it.

What about the victim?

To my knowledge, this young woman told me and one other colleague. I kept the secretto myself for the last seven years until the other night. I let slip to a journalist friend the very basics of what happened,

I think it’s pretty clear that if this person actually gave a shit about the rape victim, they would have disclosed this information anywhere between when it happened and last year, rather than waiting until the election campaign started again. This tells me they’re doing it for political reasons and for attention,

I’m a victim of attempted rape by my ex who thought it was cool to start sex with his roommate in the bunk above us. He entered me as I tried to push him off me and calls it “attempted sex” to this day. But I was young and continued dating him. A few years ago I connected it with rape and see myself now as a survivor.

Something bad happened to a woman? SHE MUST’VE HANDLED IT WRONG. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IF YOU AREN’T PERFECT YOU DESERVED TO BE A VICTIM. SHE MUST’VE BEEN ASKING FOR IT. VICTIMS ARE WHO WE SHOULD REALLY BLAME.

One of the things I value so much, reading this story, is how clearly it shows the way that reporting someone isn’t always and shouldn’t be assumed to be a horrible excision of deep personal trauma—that the author reported him with the primary goal of keeping other women safe.

Thank you for this. You are strong, and we support you.

I really fucking hope tons and tons of people read this and realize that assault is a serious thing, and for some reason we keep treating it as ‘women are just lying bitches’ and THAT’S NOT FUCKING OKAY.
