I used to think like Jordmaniac, until my wife got a MDX.. it’s functionally identical to a Honda Pilot, if you limit the function to ‘takes you from A to B’.
Otherwise it’s a better car in every way, quiet, handles startlingly well, fast, best AWD in the snow I’ve ever driven including Subarus.

That’s a hyper niche product. I think they want to sell a meaningful amount of these. 

You’re paying more because it comes on a higher trim, the manual itself is a no cost option. And yes, at this point, most manuals are coming on higher spec models.

As long as MS is offering GamePass, they’ll be just fine. It sucks when your big hits get delayed and miss giving you big Q4 numbers, but the whole point of having a subscription service in the first place was to give them a constant, steady revenue stream and make them less dependent on tent-pole hits.
