Oh wow! Now if only someone could find the torque it misplaced below 7k RPM....

I think BMW dropping the manual from the 330/340 is pretty indicative of how likely the G70 would’ve failed even if it was with the good engine and good interior.

Something to keep in mind: Good BMW dealers will route existing cars in transit or order you cars and sell you them like they’re on the lot. It all depends on the dealer. Cadillac dealers will do the same - but for performance cars I’ve seen plenty of manuals on the lots (at least here in the Chicago area).

This is not really that surprising. There’s a reason BMW keeps offering manuals in the M3/M4, but not in most of their other models. VW sells a ton of manual GTIs, and I assume that translates to the Golf R as well. It seems take rates on sports cars and high end sport sedans are decent, but pretty much everything

What’s stopping a company from making one of these with a roof to protect from the elements? This kind of stuff would be awesome as a second car, but as presented is way too limiting (especially in the snow belt).

What I don’t understand is they develop gorgeous interiors for the XT5 and CT6, and then don’t bring that design language to the other vehicles. The CT5/CT4 interiors are worse than the CT6 and not in a “it needs to downscale” but in a “wtf were they thinking.” Still miles better the previous gen ATS/CTS interiors,

I had one, largely because I got a top end $50k one with all of the performance options for $30k CPO less than 2 years old. The piano black trim was a nightmare to keep clean, but otherwise it was really well built and drove fantastic. It really just needed a better center stack to be an overall fantastic car.

I completely agree. I’d buy a S3 hatchback without hesitation (and I put my money where my mouth is: had a MK6 Golf R I bought new, currently have a S5 Sportback). The interior difference alone does it for me.

Pretty much every modern Cadillac. By all measures they’re fantastic performance sedans (well except the XTS), but they constantly get shit on when people consider buying them over their rivals.

I prefer it to shitty CGI.

Yep. There are so many examples of snubs across the board in categories, and their rap sections remain a joke (although Nas and Jay Electronica surprisingly got recognized in best album). A Tribe Called Quest got snubbed on their last album and called them out, Run The Jewels somehow still gets ignored....

After a certain period of time, any performer would struggle to continue to be new and inventive and entertaining. These guys are much older, much richer, and ultimately (and understandably) lazier. I don’t fault them for not putting out the same level of content as before.

I’m with you. I went with the 4 door on my MK6 R for the exact same reason: Way more convenient to throw things and people back there.

Agreed. I imagine take rate was low once they started offering 3 and 5 door versions, and decided to kill off the 3 door as a result.

I loved my MK6 Golf R, still probably my favorite car I’ve had.

Good luck finding a 2 door anything these days in this category.

Jaguar/land rover tanked so hard they were sold multiple times.

You just don’t understand the way Musk is DESTROYING the car making establishment! He’s a genius! He’s doing things his own way and it’s clearly working!

For the longest time the MDX was one of the nicer SUVs in this size range, price considered. As Acura became more bland and the MDX barely changed for nearly a decade, that wavered. New one with the renewed focus on design and driving experience should help.

Weird. It’s almost like their purpose is to make money. And when people care more about the emblem than the quality of the car, then you can charge more for that.
