It’s nowhere near enough. It’s a form of hate crime; it can and has resulted in violence toward other members of the group that was being lied about. It should be a felony all day.

Exactly—individual animals don’t smell like much. My grandparents kept cows and slaughtered one for each winter. But you can’t do large scale operations with living things in the way you can with widgets. You’ll torture them, and you’ll spend the rest of the time mitigating the side effects of torture.
