it's all coming back - the snare, the big cheesy synths, the crappy songwriting…

i had to look it up :)

oh yeah, totally.

exactly the same effect

no, really. the technique is well-known. and it's not just a noise gate threshold.

the idea isn't to let the processed sound decay naturally before cutting it off. it's that you want to get a huge sound into the gate and then chop it off quickly and sharply.

the reverb and compressor will make the sound coming into the gate too loud for it to cut off quickly. a compressed drum with a lot of reverb makes a big BOOOOOM with a long tail. you really need that separate, sharp, dry, sound from the drum mic to control the gate.

here's a paragraph of the letter he sent the press after he left Genesis:

i get the feeling he's just an affable guy who can play anything, so people like working with him.

i just can't stand the way he sings.

but then there's the singer

Gabriel is always cool. even when his songs were weak, he was trying cool stuff in the process.

their explanation of the sound is lacking.

i was looking for a site and then i found a site
but heaven knows it's miserable now

But it raises a question - if a president were to do outlandish stunts, would people find that impressive?

his statement sounds exactly like the fawning nonsense countless "conservative" blogs gush out all day long.

why? who is it for?

there were boxes and boxes of free moon pies at work today.

and the tile supplier is like "YYYEEEEESSSSSSS!!! Guess who just ordered another 8,000 sq/ft of ghastly, expensive marble! I know who's gettin a new boat this week!"
