I think what often happens is that the relationship starts to crumble and the couple gets married to try to save it, that doesnt work, and they get divorced. 

Hospital visitation rights, for one. Also, if one of you dies and the other has an asshole family, barring a will, they could take everything of their kids regardless of it's importance to the partner.

I almost feel bad for Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin. They talk so much about how much work their relationship is and how hard marriage can be. I used to be in a relationship that was very difficult and I thought that was just the way things were, but it turns out it was so hard because we just were not compatible. 

If it’s true that Miley blindsided him... maybe that is the best thing for him in the end. Such a slap in the face, such finality, will maybe save him from getting back together with her again.
