Interesting read. I think one important point is that European law traditions are different from American ones, and that American companies working with common-law based business models may face difficulties operating in Roman-law based cultures.

As far as I know it only plays back blu-rays without a certain copy protection (which apparently is illegal to circumvent). So most commercial BRDs probably won't play but your selfmade ones might. For Mac users it's a start.
