I hear you and don’t disagree, but look at many of GM’s most interesting, reforming projects over the decades...they were things that were really new, exciting, and quality, and they almost always fail because the company doesn’t support them. I’m thinking Fiero and EV1 and the Holden-based rebirth of Pontiac and the

I erred for CP, though it wasn’t the easiest choice. It’s less money than a similar-mileage-and-year Honda Odyssey, so I considered an NP vote, but only by a few grand and frankly the Odyssey seems like it’s a few grand better of a vehicle. This one for me is a “pass, but I wouldn’t mock the person who took it”.

My impression of GM is that it is a company that desperately wants to make bold, exciting things; but is simultaneously terrified of bold, exciting things. They’ll dazzle us over and over again with exciting concepts, but should something interesting accidentally make production, they’ll nearly always kill it with

I would also add the LC500 to its list of competitors, especially because it would be really close between that and the 911 if I were shopping in this segment. The BMW isn’t even worth going down to the dealer and sitting in compared to the 911 and LC IMO.

Personally, I think the new 8 series looks utterly hideous in person, but such things are subjective. The other thing about the 8 is it just seems so bland and un-special for the money...another length of BMW sausage, which you could get for $50k well-equipped in a 3-series, but it costs twice as much and looks

Golfs, Jettas, New Beetles, Passats...most anything on the VW group A or B platforms built in the last 25 years, short of an Audi TT,  will fit tall people well (at least in the front seats).

Remember when Lexus used AI to make a super artsy car ad that made zero sense? I think BMW found some discount AI for this tweet...

There’s definitely too many people (by far) given the quality of life people want to live, and the energy requirements of that quality of life given current technology. Something’s gotta give: either the number of people, or the quality of life they want to live, or the connection between quality of life and energy

I’m inclined to think that telling people who are raising significant issues to “just relax and decompress” is also part of why the world is as broken as it is? Maybe we should listen to people telling hard truths instead of just asking them to kindly help us mutually bury all our heads in the sand?

I started learning to heel and toe in 2004 when I got my first manual car, and I could do it OK but never very smoothly or confidently, until I did my first track day in 2006. Without even thinking about it, heel and toe just became quick, smooth, and unthinking; I didn’t even realize I had nailed heel-and-toe until I

Cool stuff! I wouldn’t mind slowing down just a little bit more on those “different ways it could’ve looked” things; very interesting design insight going on there. :)

I wish more car company ads were inspired by Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” video.

It’s a nice art piece! I can imagine some sort of auto sculpture using these as its wheels, permanently installed on a lawn somewhere. Actually using them as functional wheels? Uh...no.

This whole situation was an utter failure of leadership. Nobody wanted to be on the hook for the call, and tens of thousands of people were potentially unnecessarily exposed as a result. Coronavirus is highlighting that a lot in the world today I think: showing that a lot of people who are powerful and in charge,

A couple weeks ago, proceeding looked like it might be somewhat responsible. But I think we’ve had at least a few days now where someone should’ve said “look, we know it’s last minute, but we gotta cancel this thing” and they should’ve done it before everyone showed up...cash was king, but now even more of it is being

Comedy.

Long time Root reader; white, gay, outspoken liberal, massively on-board with racial equality and progress. I can never claim to experience the african-american experience in a direct way; I try to walk a mile in everyone’s shoes but I know it can only be an approximation...

Oooh, you are diabolical! Sadly, I think that punishment would be considered “cruel and unusual”.

I realize that we shouldn’t be haggling over this, but...3.5?

The EGR delete is what tipped it to CP for me, plus the mileage is quite high. That said, I was liking it initially; I knew someone years ago who had a sedan one of these done up as a cheap track rat, and it was pretty sweet. Early Foci are good at being little cheap track rats!
