at first, Archie's Place tried to say Edith was away visiting relatives, but the audience kept sending letters, wanting to know where she was and when she'd be back. The show's producers soon realized the audience would never stop asking for Edith, as long as she was alive.

Eh, it didn't lose it's soul til the third one, when it 'borrowed' the soul of Lethal Weapon and let him run free all over Manhattan.
