The goal wasn't "deep cuts." The goal was using music as an emotional anchor to Earth in a film where everything takes space in outer space. That doesn't work if you deliberately pick a bunch of songs nobody's ever heard.

I don't think it's possible to give the editing in this show enough praise. The "You don't have me on camera signing it."/"What kind of lawyer am I, signing this without reading it?" is without a doubt the best execution of comedy through editing I've probably ever seen.
