A back-light means the gap between the screen and the back plate (where the ink is stored) has to be bigger, which makes the e-ink less responsive. The Remarkable device specifically excluded a back-light because it would compromise the functionality too much.

Loved it. Subtle acting by McManus under all that latex. She was better as a Krill than as a human, frankly, but I guess that makes sense in retrospect.
I think technically it’s a comedic pastiche. But the gags are far enough apart to forget sometimes.
