It’s not so much that the earlier K-cars were conservative, it’s that they just kept only doing that, long after it fell out of favor. The Dodge Spirit came a full three years after the Ford Taurus.

I think it’d actually be more accurate to argue Dodge made the MOST trash cars. Malaise era, disastrous downsizing era, K-car era, Daimler era... There are some ROUGH patches in Dodge’s history.
