It’s actually stranger that people whose job it is to objectively review films are in the tank for this franchise and, to some extent, Disney in general.

What's strange is the "critical" media seems to have a vested interest in this film's success. Why?
Oooooohhhhhhh!
Are they the owners or managers of the company? If so, do they know what happens to them during the revolution? Lol
FUEL THE REVOLUTION WITH MOUNTAIN DEW GAMER FUEL!!!
Then point out the country that went communist and didn't result in a bloodbath and made it's citizens better off.
Of an entire Earldom!
Caesar Salad is awesome and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
But what about...oh.
Gritty. Everyone is so dirty, lol.
I think that’s fair. A divisive film that made a billion dollars wouldn’t be on my list of the worst movies of 2019. Unless I was predisposed to dislike it.
Some people like it and others didn’t...and so? Presumably most of the staff here didn’t like it, as it made their list of worst movies of the year. Why you feel the need to refute that is beyond me.
You should. If they’re wrong, then no harm done. If they’re right, then trust me, you’ll want time to go in forewarned.
Mitt Romney didn’t kill Toys R Us, the marketplace (more accurately, the consumer) did.
My beef with superhero films is the reliance on CGI to the point of incoherence. This really struck me in watching Thor: Ragnorak. That movie was entertaining right up until the action started. Then instead of witty dialogue and character development we got weightless battles against obviously computer generated…
That is the white wale of RE remakes for me. RE3? Eh. But Code Veronica? Yes, please!
Any RE remake in the spirit of the RE2 remake is good news, although RE3 was one of my less favorite RE’s. By the time of 3, I was bored of the things that felt the same, and didn’t really like the things that they changed either. Still, I’m glad they’re making it.
Through which I would conclude that the OP’s original statement of, “you wished for it to bomb,” was more right than wrong.
Makes sense that the AV Club would take the first superhero (villain) film since Logan to actually have anything meaningful to say and say it is THE WORST. Much worse than CGI fests involving the fighting of inter dimensional beings with the entire universe at stake.
And yet it’s on their worst movies of 2019 list, so...?
