The word that comes to mind for me is tension. Films like The Shining, The Witch, The Babadook, etc... I wasn’t necessarily scared watching them most of the time, but I was very very tense. Like, my muscles were all clenched for a long period of time and I didn’t even realize it.

It’s a great angle, too. The idea that you are being terrified/harmed as a child and the adults either don’t believe you or (even worse) don’t/can’t help you. It’s a nearly primordial fear that King exploits really well in It.

That’s an interesting question that got me thinking, as an adult, what is the last horror movie I saw that I found legitimately scary? I’m going to go with The Ring (American). That is the last film I remember watching that legitimately scared me, and I’ve watched a TON of horror films since then.

I was always a bit surprised at the almost universally positive reviews for the first It. I thought the first movie was decent, but also suffered from some weak dialogue and broad characters. I also thought some of the child actors didn’t quite hit the mark either. Nothing terrible, as King’s dialogue often doesn’t

Other tips:

I have always hated that scene. It’s like he is floating in slow mo and Maul just like, “wahhhhhh???”

If there is any doubt, just look at his sidekick, General Hux. Another idiot who serves as a walking punchline and thereby deflates any sense of authority or being taken seriously.

The real joke is the idea of someone wanting to record Pete Davidson’s comedy routine.

At least Rodman was legitimately great at what he did. I mean, not at jump shots, but everything else he was golden.

If you agree not to sell any food that people eat during the film, you have a customer for life.

Ditto. For me the only pocket portable was the DS lline, due to the clamshell design and the knowledge that when it was closed the screens were not going to get damaged in transit. Though I’ll always regret that Nintendo went cheap with the DS and 3DS when it came to screen resolution.

If this was released at the same time as the original Switch, the portable is the one I would buy. I’m a little surprised there has been some questioning in the media about why Nintendo would release a Switch that doesn’t dock with a TV.

Fortunately, it’s not a very big state East to West.

I was saying Boo-urns.

Oh god, I very much hope they don’t do Immaculate Conception II.

I loved the idea, but the execution was rubbish.

For 90 minutes.

I actually like this as the plot. It nicely explains how her parents were nobody’s, but also explains how she is so powerful with the Force, despite almost no training.

You’re probably right, although I think having her turn for real would be an interesting direction to go in. I read another theory that she is a clone created by Palpatine, which would be a great way to square the circle of her parents being “nobody’s,” but also that she is special in her own right by virtue of her
