But if you follow that logic to its conclusion most animation ends up being Korean. Which seems overly reductive.

I was under the impression that gainax handed over the IP rights to the rebuild movies and they where entirely studio khara’s thing. I mean Anno recently sued them for unpayed royalties, doesn’t seem like a lot of funding was going on.
